Last week, I learned that Google Reader was going away in July. That's too bad. However, I don't have to be brand loyal. I used it because it looked better than the Blogger Reader and there was a handy link to click to read it.
So... I'll be switching to Feedly next. So far, I'm able to have it read my Google Reader account. When that site goes down, Feedly says it should have a problem. I hope not.
However, I couldn't figure out how to have my Google Alerts read in Feedly. Then I played around and placed them in a Subfolder of sorts. Guess what. It worked!
Woo-hoo! Now I have my Google Alerts showing up in Feedly under the category Alerts. Yeah! So Google Reader... you can hasten yourself away. I found something new. I'm not going to say it works better until August when I see if the Feedly will still work. But for now, I have found something new. See ya!

Hi Devon,
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to find an alternative for my Google Alerts at the moment. How exactly did you get your alerts into your Feedly?
I created a folder in Google Reader named Alerts. Then I moved my alerts into that folder the same way I move my favorite blogs.
DeleteFor instance, I created an alert for heritage scrapbook blogs. I created the alert the 'normal way' in Google Reader. Then I moved the heritage scrapbook alert to my Alert folder.
Then I refreshed Feedly and viola! Problem solved. I hope that makes sense.
Now... I'm not sure how this will work come July 1. This is my patch for the time being. Perhaps Feedly will figure out something more intuitive.
